This past Thursday, the Hebrew Academy of Miami was filled with excitement and joy as our 5th graders experienced a truly magical "Mitzvah Day"—a day brimming with deep meaning, heartfelt connection, and memories that will last a lifetime. The entire day was thoughtfully planned to engage the students in hands-on activities that would allow them to connect with their faith in a tangible way, making the experience both educational and deeply meaningful. One of the central highlights of the day was a tzitzit-making workshop, expertly led by Rav Ido. With his warm guidance and expertise, Rav Ido took each student through the intricate process of creating their own set of tzitzit, step by step. As the children worked with their hands, they not only learned the practical aspects of making the fringes but also gained a profound understanding of the spiritual significance behind this mitzvah. This workshop offered the students the rare opportunity to engage with a mitzvah on a personal level, allowing them to reflect on its deeper meaning and appreciate its importance in Jewish life. By crafting their own tzitzit, the students developed a deeper sense of connection to the tradition and a lasting appreciation for the beauty of this ritual. The day was filled with smiles, laughter, and a shared sense of accomplishment, as each student proudly completed their tzitzit and reflected on the meaningful experience. The joy in the room was palpable, and the excitement of learning and creating something so personally significant was felt by all. This "Mitzvah Day" was truly a special moment for our 5th graders, fostering a sense of unity, spirituality, and pride in their Jewish heritage. The memories made that day will undoubtedly stay with them as they continue to grow in their understanding of mitzvot and tradition.
