ADL Reports Sharp Rise in Antisemitic Incidents Nationwide; Florida Remains a Concern Despite Decline

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has released its 2024 Audit of Antisemitic Incidents, revealing a troubling 9,354 reported cases of antisemitic assault, harassment, and vandalism across the United States — a 5% increase from 2023.

The ADL tracked 353 incidents in Florida in 2024, down 24% from the 463 reported the previous year. However, the state’s numbers remain 31% higher than in 2022, which was itself a record-breaking year. Alarmingly, five of the six antisemitic assaults recorded in the state took place in Miami-Dade County.

The audit also highlights a surge in Israel-related antisemitic incidents in Florida, which rose from 116 to 161 over the past year. (Demonstrations that did not include antisemitic expressions were not counted in the audit.)

“The continued presence of antisemitism—even in the wake of the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel, the deadliest attack on Jews since the Holocaust—is deeply disturbing,” said an ADL spokesperson. “From swastikas on private property to hateful graffiti like ‘Hitler was right’ near synagogues, and even physical assaults, the data reflects a persistent and dangerous trend.”

In one particularly alarming case, a Florida business received a threatening letter stating “Jewish kids are our focus” and “Our guns are loaded,” with the envelope labeled “Hizbollah.” The ADL emphasized that such incidents are not critiques of Israeli policy but acts of hate designed to instill fear.

ADL officials stressed that antisemitism affects entire communities and called for unified action across all sectors of society. “Hate must be met with clear and unwavering opposition,” the statement read. “Elected officials, public figures, and citizens alike must speak out to ensure that antisemitism has no place in our schools, campuses, workplaces, or public discourse.”
