Miami Beach Offers Up to $20,000 in Flood Mitigation Grants

MIAMI BEACH, FL – The City of Miami Beach is once again accepting applications for up to $20,000 in reimbursement grants for eligible flood mitigation projects, including $2,500 for private flood risk assessments.

“Miami Beach is among the first cities to provide financial incentives for property owners to safeguard their homes and businesses from flooding,” said City Manager Eric T. Carpenter. “We’ve seen the damage caused when property owners are unprepared, and we want to help reduce that risk.”

Applications for the 2025 Fight the Flood Private Property Adaptation (PPA) program will be accepted from Feb. 26 to April 25. Eligible projects include building elevation, floodproofing, temporary barriers, drainage improvements, permeable pavers, rain gardens, seawalls, and more.

Miami Beach homeowners may also qualify for the statewide Elevate Florida program, recently launched by the Florida Division of Emergency Management. This initiative funds at least 75% of eligible projects such as structure elevation, mitigation reconstruction, and structure acquisition. Applications can be submitted at floridadisaster.org/dem/mitigation/elevate-Florida/.

The PPA program is open to single-family homeowners, multifamily property owners, and businesses, with 58 projects already underway. Low-to-moderate income applicants can receive the full $20,000 reimbursement without a funding match.

According to the National Institute of Building Sciences, every $1 spent on resilience saves an estimated $13 in disaster response and recovery costs.

Applications will be reviewed and prioritized based on criteria such as elevation, residential status, historic designation, income, and flood risk data.

A virtual informational workshop will be held on March 13 at 6 p.m. The application and workshop recording will be available at www.mbrisingabove.com/ppa.
