Spring Break Rules in Miami Beach: What You Need to Know

Changes are coming to Miami Beach for spring break, including parking restrictions, increased fees, and potential curfews as the city works to manage large crowds. The periods between March 13-16 and March 20-23 are expected to generate the largest spring break crowds this year. As such, more stringent measures will be implemented during these two weekends.

Parking Restrictions

  • Feb. 27–March 2, March 6–9, and March 27–30: A $30 flat rate applies at city garages and surface lots in South Beach. Garage entry closes at 6 p.m., except for residents and employees.
  • March 13–16 and March 20–23: All garages and surface lots south of 23rd Street will be closed, including:
    • 7 Street and Collins Avenue (G1)
    • 12 Street and Washington Avenue (G2)
    • 13 Street and Collins Avenue (G3)
    • 16 Street between Collins and Washington Avenues (G4)
    • 17 Street and Convention Center Drive (G5)
    • 18 Street and Meridian Avenue (G7)
    • Lincoln Lane North and Pennsylvania Avenue (G9)
    • 23 Street and Park Avenue (G12)
    • A $100 flat fee parking rate will apply for visitors at Sunset Harbour Garage (G10) and 42 Street Garage (G6).
  • Parking restrictions do not apply to Miami Beach residents, employees, access card holders, or permit holders. Proof of residency or employment is required upon entry.

Towing & Fines

  • The nonresident towing rate will be $532—double the regular rate—for vehicles towed in South Beach.
  • Parking violations in March will cost non-residents $516.

Traffic & Checkpoints

  • License Plate Readers (LPR):
    • March 14-16 and March 21-23: LPR details on MacArthur Causeway (8 p.m.) and Julia Tuttle Causeway (9 p.m.). Expect significant traffic delays.
    • March 7-9: LPR detail along the 5 Street corridor starting at 7 p.m.
  • DUI Checkpoints:
    • March 14-15 and March 21-22: DUI checkpoint at the 400 block of 5 Street starting at 7 p.m.

Changes on Ocean Drive

  • March 6-9, March 13-16, and March 20-23: Ocean Drive will only be accessible to vehicles from the northernmost available street, with a sole exit at 5 Street. Barricades will be in place.
  • Pedestrian Restrictions: Sidewalk seating on Ocean Drive will be closed March 14-16 and March 21-23.
  • Security Measures:
    • Beach entrances on Ocean Drive limited to 5, 10, and 12 Streets with security checkpoints. These entrances close at 6 p.m.
    • Coolers, inflatable devices, tents, tables, and amplified music without a city permit are not allowed.
    • Alcohol and smoking are always prohibited on city beaches.

Curfews & Nighttime Rules

  • No official curfews have been announced yet, but midnight curfews have been implemented in past years.
  • Packaged liquor stores in the Entertainment District must close by 8 p.m.

Transportation & Parking Enforcement

  • Miami Beach Trolley Service: Enhanced service from 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. on March 6-9, March 13-16, and March 20-23.
  • On-Street Parking:
    • No parking on Collins Avenue (5 Street to Española Way) and Washington Avenue (5-16 Streets) during peak weekends.
    • Parking along 100 blocks of 6-15 Streets and 200 blocks of 6 Street to Española Way restricted 24 hours per day during peak weekends.
    • Residential Zone 5 permit holders exempt unless otherwise noted.

Business Restrictions

  • Businesses renting golf carts, scooters, mopeds, motorcycles (50cc or less), autocycles, or motorized bicycles will be suspended March 13-16 and March 20-23.

Citywide Security & Staffing

  • Increased staffing for Miami Beach Police, Fire Rescue, Ocean Rescue, Code Compliance, Park Rangers, Parking, and Sanitation.
  • Law enforcement support from Florida Highway Patrol, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, and other agencies.
  • Fire inspections for occupancy limits and safety checks at nightclubs and venues.
  • Goodwill Ambassadors wearing pink “Take Care of Our City” shirts will assist visitors.
