Mayor Steven Meiner addressed the issue of flooding and resiliency, stating: "Yesterday’s heavy rainfall caused significant flooding, affecting streets, homes, and businesses. Our low-lying neighborhoods, located at or near sea level, are particularly vulnerable. While our 48 storm water pump stations, 23 sewer pump stations, 6 water pump stations, and 4 storm water vacuum trucks are actively working, we need more sustainable, long-term solutions. Here’s what we are doing: Storm water vacuum trucks are used to clear clogged drains and remove standing water from the streets, helping water flow into the drainage system more efficiently. These trucks are essential, not a luxury, and I’m advocating for more of them to strengthen our flood response. We will continue to clear storm drains year-round. However, if your property is at or below sea level, even moderate rain can cause flooding. The Public Works Control Room is a 24/7 support center available for all City stakeholders. To report flooding, call 305.673.7625, email Flooding@Miamibeachfl.gov, or use the Miami Beach Gov App. Flooding is not only an infrastructure challenge—it’s a critical public safety priority. We’re actively working on upgrading drainage and infrastructure to ensure Miami Beach remains dry throughout the year."
