Gov. Ron DeSantis Signs Bills Supporting Renaming of Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America’

Governor Ron DeSantis signed two bills on Monday aimed at implementing former President Donald Trump’s directive to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” according to the Florida Senate.

The first bill, HB 575, updates numerous references in state law to reflect the new name. The second measure, HB 549, mandates that all state agencies revise official geographic materials, including maps and publications, to incorporate the updated terminology.

These legislative efforts mark a symbolic alignment with the former president’s initiative and represent a significant step in reshaping geographic references within the state’s official documents and resources.
